RtI is a multi-tiered, early intervening process designed to improve academic outcomes for all students. Intensity of instruction/intervention increases from one tier to the next. Resources found in this section provide information related to assessment practices and instruction within each tier.

Title Tiers of Intervention in Kindergarten Through Third Grade

Summary

Reports results of an empirical study designed to investigate the impact of Tier 2 and 3 intervention on targeted students in kindergarten through grade 3. Descriptions of tiered instruction are provided. Results of the study report moderate to large effect sizes for direct intervention and a decrease in the number of students referred for special education.

Title Jumpstarting the RtI Process in Your School

This presentation is one of three regional trainings offered through the NYS RtI TAC in 2009.  Author and co-principal investigator for the National Center on Response to Intervention, Dr. Mellard, delivered the presentation.  The overview includes etiology of RtI, advantages, and tiered interventions.  In addition to several resources, Dr. Mellard provided an in-depth look on indicators of fidelity and how it fits into the school system.
